Top 6 & How to budget for a "Black Tie Event"

This blog space is new for me, as I was originally with blogger or blogspot and I already have posted a few contents on there. I thought to combine my blog and portfolio work into one website, as it will be a lot easier to maintain and showcase what I do.

Anyways, on the 12th of September evening was where I travelled to a little town that is Harrogate for a prestigious event called, Bridal Buyers. This was a competition for fashion students across the county to entry, I entered thinking nothing of it but apparently my third year was my year and I became one of the 12 finalist. There were other 3 girls from my year that was with me in the finals - Amie, Zoe and Leoretta. We were also fortunate enough to have been invited to the event.

However one thing that scared and excited me was the word "Black Tie", of course my instant thought were 'POSH'. Unfortunately I am currently still a poor graduate student so buying something expensive was out of the question.

Before I knew it I started to ask myself,

- What stores are there?

- What kind of stores do occasional garments?

- How much exactly am I willing to spend overall?

- Do I look online or go in stores?

- Do I need new make-up?

- Do I need accessories?

- What kind of hair style do I do?

- Do I need new heels?

Those questions did not really matter apart from the main question, which was,

- How can I exactly budget for such an event?

So I made a list:

1. Look at my vanity of what kind of eye-shadow palettes, foundation, lipstick, ect... I already have.

2. Ask my mother where she keeps her very expensive jewellery.

3. See what hair products I have.

4. Go downstairs and look at all of my heels.

5. Rummage through both mine and my mother's closet for clutch bags.

I know for a fact that all I really need wa a dress. Through the help of a sister and a days worth of looking online! I successfully found the perfect dress from Missguided.

This is a simple navy off the shoulder v plunge neck dress and this only cost me £30.00 + delivery + student discount.

The choice of accessory that I went for from my mother's jewellery box were her pearls, as I instantly wanted to channel Coco Chanel for that classic / chic look on the rad carpet.

As the night went through the announcements where happening, and when it was our category only 6 names were announced and one of them was mine! I could not have been any happier and felt so achieved in my life to be in the top 6, which also gave me motivations of entering for any future graduate competitions.

Anyways here is an attempt of a video of what happened during that night and do hope that it looks alright.
